The fight for women's suffrage was long and brutal, but those courageous women won a crucial battle.

As we all know - the fight for equality is far from over.

The gender-pay gap still exists; women still face daily abuse, harassment and sexual violence and gender stereotypes and assumptions still constrain and narrow the choices of many individuals.

"This report shows that a whole section of society are being failed by this government and remain permanently trapped in low-paid work.

"This is only being made worse by the Conservatives' pursuit of an extreme Brexit that is damaging businesses, pushing up prices and hitting the poorest hardest.

"We urgently need to invest more in education, including adult learning, to improve social mobility and help people escape from poverty.

"Employment rules must be made fit for the 21st century, to strengthen rights and increase security for workers."

However, the Paris-based thinktank also said the economy would see a "significant boost" if there was another referendum leading to Brexit being reversed.

Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Jo Swinson commented:

"This is a significant intervention the government cannot afford to ignore.

"Brexit has already caused the UK to slip from top to bottom of the international growth league for major economies.

"This will only get worse if the government succeeds in dragging us out of the single market and customs union, or we end up crashing out of Europe without a deal.

"The case for protecting the economy by reversing Brexit is getting stronger by the day.

"Once the facts are clear at the end of this process, the British people must have the final say with a chance to exit from Brexit."

"It's 2017; this is welcome but decades overdue. Of course it is good news for women in Saudi Arabia, but they continue to face oppression, such as the guardianship laws that put men in control of women's lives.

"This news must not be allowed to act as a smokescreen to distract from Saudi's most recent crackdown on human rights and freedom of expression, and the international community must also keep up the pressure on Saudi Arabia to give women equal rights and protection."

By Jo Swinson MP, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats

Pride is a colourful, energetic celebration of freedom, love and acceptance. Each year I am amazed as thousands of people of all sexualities take to the streets in the name of freedom and equality.

I am proud to stand with the LGBT community in the continuous fight for a more open, tolerant and united society.
